Moncton, NB, October 6, 2020 – Between October 10 and November 8, 2020, Galerie Sans Nom proudly presents PERFform, a Performance Art Tour in the province of New Brunswick. This tour will feature seven artists who have emerging and established practices in performance art: Marika Drolet-Ferguson, Emily Saab, Jerry Ropson, Xavier Gould, Samuel Landry as well as the founders of the project: Linda Rae Dornan and Mathieu Léger. PERFform aims to bring performance art throughout the province with this tour, hoping to disseminate an artistic practice that is more obscure from the tradition of visual arts. Made possible through a Touring Grant from the Ministry of Tourism, Heritage, and Culture of the Province of New Brunswick, this tour will bring the artists to 9 communities throughout the province. The artists have prepared a series of performances created specifically for this one of a kind tour in New Brunswick.

*** Please note that all necessary precautions will be taken to ensure everyone’s safety. The events will take place outside. Masks and hand sanitizer will be available on site. The artists will not approach the public.

WEAK SIZE FISH VIDEO RELEASE

Seven-piece Maritime dub-reggae band, Weak Size Fish releases their music video for Roots of Creation from their album The Drift on September 23. When the group came across spare time due to the cancellation of their shows, they began filming themselves in their bubbles and compiling the footage. The track pays homage to the golden era of roots reggae and dub, yet has a unique production style that surrounds the listener with layers of ambient textures. +++ info >

Gallery 78, Gallery on Queen, CreatedHere Hop

Three galleries are joining forces to offer a Gallery “mini Hop” with the backdrop of beautiful autumn foliage.  Gallery on Queen, the CreatedHere Studio and Gallery 78 will be open from 4 – 7 pm on Thursday, October 8, and 6 – 9 pm at CreatedHere and invite you to walk Queen Street with your family and friends for an evening of exquisite visual art, all while respecting COVID distancing requirements. Please bring your community masks.

The Gallery on Queen presents RITUALS showcasing emerging artists Alison Willms and Austin Daigle. Willms an emerging artist from the east coast of Canada, is a graduate of the Bachelor of Fine Arts program at Mount Allison University. She uses a wide range of media in her practice, including analog photography, printmaking, film, sound, and installation. Willms’ work explores a spectrum of ideas from relationships to ritual. Austin Daigle is an emerging artist, taught metalsmith, experienced part-time bench jeweller, and art preparator/ junior curator for Gallery on Queen fine art. Originally from Alberta, he studied at the New Brunswick College of Craft and Design and found an affinity in the malleability of sterling and copper, and went on to graduate with honors from the Jewelry and Metal Arts program in 2017.

CreatedHere Studio features SARDINIA the work of award-winning artist Janice Wright Cheney. The sardine fishery, once the lifeblood of many East Coast towns, is now closed due to species collapse. SARDINIA is an immersive installation that conjures the sheer abundance of the past. Using video, audio and sculptural elements, SARDINIA projects thousands of sardines swimming, without end on a vaulted ceiling.

Gallery 78 will feature three new exhibitions. Upstairs, The City of Fredericton’ 2020 Summer Artist in Residence Program held at Odell Park and the Fredericton Botanic Garden will be highlighted in a group exhibition of works.  The exhibit will include works created and inspired by this residency and will range from visual arts, music, fine craft, literature and more. Downstairs at Gallery 78 will feature works for purchase from a Fredericton collector with an “excellent eye” as well as a bounty of flowers in GATHERED BLOOMS a delightful group exhibition by many favourite gallery artists.

Summer might be coming to an end, and Third Shift 2020 is over, but there is still plenty on the go at Third Space this fall! Here are a few upcoming events to cheer you up on this rainy day.
Third Space Gallery’s Annual General Meeting will take place on Wednesday, October 14 at 7 pm, at the Imperial Theatre. We will share what we’ve been doing, what are the plans are for the upcoming years, get suggestions from our members, and answer all your questions. Space, Place, Home

The opening for Space, Place, Home, will be held on Thursday, October 8 from 5 to 8 PM.

Some of the artists will be in attendance and the curators will present the exhibition every hour, at 5:30 PM, 6:30 PM and 7:30 PM.

The exhibition presents the work of nine artists who have a connection to the Atlantic region and whose research address the fluid ideas of space and of place. The participating artists are rudi aker, Léopold L. Foulem, Séamus Gallagher, Hailey Guzik, Denis Lanteigne, Meagan Musseau, Reiko Pleau, Serge V. Richard, and Lisa Theriault. Space, Place, Home emerged from conversations between members of the 3E Collective, while discussing the meaning and variations of place and home as three artists and curators from New Brunswick.

Space, Place, Home will be presented until October 18, 2020. As of October 1, visiting hours will be 1 – 4 PM,
Tuesday to Sunday. Admission is free and all are welcome.

Covid-19: Preventative measures are in effect, including regular disinfection, physical distancing and facial
masks.  Please note that access will be limited to 40 visitors at a time and that a mask is required.

25th ANNIVERSARY OF EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMMING  

The Musée acadien de l’Université de Moncton (MAUM) is pleased to announce the 25th anniversary of its educational program. The program, offered in both official languages, began 25 years ago thanks to the MAUM’s rich collection and a desire to offer workshops in New Brunswick schools. Today, the program continues to engage schools in the province and neighboring communities.

Over the years, the educational program has offered a great variety of workshops based on historic objects and has constantly evolved in order to keep up with the educational demands in curriculum and the importance of different acadien based themes taught in class. During its 25 years of programming, the MAUM has searched out and created partnerships and collaborations to facilitate teaching, to enrich its programs and to create stronger ties with the community. Among its numerous relationships with teachers, members of the community and diverse organizations, the Musée acadien has been able to broaden its capacities to create meaningful projects, especially with youths, such as multimedia activities and exhibition creation.

 

To celebrate the educational program’s 25th anniversary, the MAUM would like to announce some new educational elements, such as resource sheets, a virtual educational workshop and a new blog series.

 

Resource Sheets: The Musée acadien has developed educational resource sheets touching on different themes, events and characters from Acadian culture and history. This project enables teachers and educators to freely and instantly access resources and information traditionally offered through guided tours and in person workshops. These resource sheets are available by visiting the MAUM’s Website at https://www.umoncton.ca/umcm-maum/node/34. Resource sheets are currently only offered in French.

Virtual Educational Workshop: For back to school 2020, the MAUM presents a new educational workshop all about food in Acadie. This workshop is offered virtually and can be explored at your pace via a PowerPoint document. Just like all other workshops offered by the Musée acadien, it is based on objects from the collection and supplemented by information, videos, photographs and audio recordings. Blog Series: To further diversify our current educational blog series “Côté education”, the MAUM is happy to announce its miniseries “Côté education: Selon les expertes et les experts”. This miniseries is looking to breach the gap between museum education and schools by collaborating with experts in the field of education, such as teachers and community coordinators. Each blog post in this series presents answers from experts based on questions the Musée acadien has asked them related to museums and schools and the relation between the two. Stay tuned for this miniseries in the coming weeks on our blog. Most blog posts from this series will be in French.

 

The Musée acadien is always on the lookout for new educational program themes and ideas for presentations in the community, so please do not hesitate to share your project ideas with us. Do you have any unanswered questions about Acadian history? We love a challenge! If you are in search of a specific object, a class presentation, or some partnership opportunities, let us know and it would be our pleasure to discuss with you. Our workshops and projects are also adaptable to the needs of the community at large, such as community centers and for senior citizens.

The MAUM is supported by the City of Moncton and the Province of New Brunswick. In addition, we would like to thank the professors of Université de Moncton, who over the years have advised and collaborated with us and validated our research related to the schools’ curriculums.

La Galerie Sans Nom souhaite la bienvenue aux artistes / GSN welcomes :

En réponse au climat d’incertitude et à la situation encore plus précaire des artistes à l’ère de la pandémie, la Galerie Sans Nom a établi le programme de mini-résidences Boîte Blanche afin d’offrir du temps, un espace, des ressources et de l’appui aux artistes.

Boîte Blanche se déroule cette année du 15 septembre au 26 novembre 2020.
Toutes les dates et biographies des artistes en résidence sont disponibles sur notre site web. La GSN alimentera aussi ses plateformes sociales avec les activités des artistes!

In response to the climate of uncertainty and the even more precarious situation of artists in the pandemic era, the Galerie Sans Nom established the White Box mini-residency program in order to offer time, space, resources and support for artists.

White Box will run from September 15 to November 26, 2020. All dates, artists’ biographies and projects are listed on our website. We’ll also be updating our social platform with the latest actions and news from the residents!
